QuantParadox vs Build Alpha
Build Alpha's robustness testing is the most thoroughly documented in retail software. Here is what it does not tell you, and what it does better than we do.
Build Alpha is a Windows desktop application that uses a genetic algorithm to generate trading strategies from a large signal library, then subjects them to an unusually extensive battery of robustness tests.
Build Alpha's published robustness suite is more extensive than ours and we are not going to pretend otherwise. Where we differ is the starting point and the door: it generates strategies on a Windows desktop for a four-figure one-time price with no trial, and we grade the strategy you already trade, in a browser, starting at nothing.
When Build Alpha is the better choice
Written without hedging, because a comparison page that cannot name a reason to pick the other product is an advertisement wearing a lab coat.
Seventeen or more named tests, including randomised out-of-sample across a thousand splits, Monte Carlo permutation on reshuffled intrabar returns, tests against random data, cross-market generalisation and time-shifted data. Ours is narrower.
Macro releases and event studies built into the signal library — a genuinely distinctive capability, and one we have deliberately not shipped for customers yet.
Millions of candidate combinations evolved against your criteria, then assembled into portfolios across strategy types, assets and timeframes.
A one-time lifetime licence including future upgrades, against our monthly subscription.
Where QuantParadox is the better tool
Build Alpha's own FAQ states there is no free trial, and its terms state all sales are final. We think you should be able to test a tool before committing four figures to it — the free tier here runs the full engine.
Their full user guide and signal glossary arrive after purchase. Everything about how we grade is published, including the parts that make us look worse.
Nothing to install, no virtual machine for Mac users, and no local compute budget for the search.
Build Alpha is asset-class agnostic with roots in futures and equities. Our eleven condition lenses — sessions, dollar index, currency strength, liquidity structure — exist because they are how currency markets actually move.
Side by side

| Build Alpha | QuantParadox | |
|---|---|---|
| Who it is built for | Systematic traders generating and stress-testing strategies at scale. | Traders validating and improving a forex strategy they already have. |
| Starting point | A genetic algorithm generates candidates from a signal library the vendor currently states as 5,000-plus. | Your rules — drawn, described in plain English, or imported. |
| Coding required | No — point and click, optionally extended with custom Python signals. | No code required. Draw the rules on a canvas, describe them in plain English, or import a strategy you already run. |
| Where it runs | Windows desktop application. | In the browser. Nothing to install. |
| Robustness testing | Seventeen-plus documented tests including randomised out-of-sample, Monte Carlo permutation, versus-random, cross-market and time-shifted testing, walk-forward and parameter sensitivity. | Out-of-sample by time on every run, risk-of-ruin Monte Carlo over the real trade distribution, per-condition attribution across eleven lenses. Narrower than theirs. |
| Data | Historical data back to 2006 included; one-minute forex via a database add-on; custom data importable. | Ten years of minute-resolution history across 30 forex, metals, index and crypto markets — 138.9 million one-minute bars. |
| AI | Genetic search over a large signal library. | The AI trains on your strategy and proposes improvements — and each proposed gain has to survive the same out-of-sample test before it counts. |
| Live execution | No — it exports code to platforms including MT4, MT5, TradeStation and NinjaTrader. | No. We are a research and validation platform, not a broker. You export the finished strategy to MQL5, Pine, Python or LEAN and run it on your own terminal, or paper-trade it here first. |
| Price | $1,497 one-time lifetime licence, advertised against a $2,497 list price. No free trial, and the terms state all sales are final. A subscription option exists but is not publicly priced. | Free to build and backtest (5 full backtests, no card). Pro $50/month. Ultimate $250/month. |
| Vendor | A single developer, self-described in the FAQ as a one-man shop. | A small team. Neither of us is a large company; you should weigh that either way. |
Questions people actually ask
Is QuantParadox a Build Alpha alternative?
For generating thousands of strategies and stress-testing them, no — Build Alpha does that better and its test suite is more extensive than ours. For taking a strategy you already trade, grading it out-of-sample and having AI improve it, that is what we are for, and you can start free.
Which has better overfitting protection?
Build Alpha's published suite is broader — seventeen or more named tests against our narrower set. Ours is enforced by default on every run rather than being a battery you choose to apply. Depth versus unavoidability; both matter and they are not the same thing.
Can I try Build Alpha before buying?
No. Their FAQ states there is no free trial because the vendor is a one-man shop, and their terms state all sales are final. Only a recorded demo is offered. QuantParadox has a free tier running the full engine, with no card.
Does Build Alpha work for forex?
Yes — it is asset-class agnostic and has a dedicated forex page covering session controls, macro overlays and export to MT4 and MT5. Its origins are in futures and equities, whereas our condition lenses were built specifically around how currency markets move.
The only comparison that settles it is your own strategy.
Build it or import it, and see the out-of-sample verdict for yourself — including when the verdict is that it does not work. Five full backtests free, no card.
One is a professional quant platform where you write the code. The other tests the strategy you already trade, without any.
The best charts in the business, and a backtester that tells you exactly which assumption it made when your stop and target shared a bar.
MetaTrader's tester is free, broker-native and runs the exact code you will trade. Here is where that is enough, and where it is not.
One trains your hand. The other tests your rules. Most traders who need one do not need the other.
StrategyQuant generates thousands of strategies and filters them. We take the one you already believe in and try to break it.
Both are no-code and both have AI. The difference is what happens when the backtest comes back looking good.
